What is Epiphany?

Webster's dictionary defines epiphany as: a Christian festival commemorating the revealing of Jesus as the Christ to the Gentiles.

The Catholic Dictionary defines it this way: the Feast commemorating Christ's manifestation to the Gentiles in the person of the Magi, as well as his baptism and first miracle at Cana. The feast began in the East in the third century and soon spread to the West, where it is identified with the visit of the Magi. For centuries the Epiphany of the Lord has been a holy day of obligation in many places.

Wikipedia.org defines epiphany as: a realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something or someone. An inspired understanding arising from connecting with profound insight, awareness, or enlightened truth.

¿Qué es Epifanía?

El diccionario lo defina como: un festival Cristiano que conmemora la revelación de Jesus como el Cristo a los paganos.

El diccionario Católico define la Epifanía como: una celebración conmemorando la manifestación de Cristo a los paganos el cual se refleja en el los tres Reyes Magos, así como su bautismo en el Jordan y el primer milagro en las bodas de Caná. Comenzo en el Oriente en el tercer siglo y rapidamente se propagó a través del Occidente, donde es reconocido con la visita de los tres Reyes Magos. Durante muchos siglos la Fiesta de la Epifanía fue reconocida en muchos lugares como un Día Santo de Obligación.

Wikipedia.org define epifanía de esta manera: La Epifanía (por etimología del griego: επιφάνεια que significa: "manifestación; un fenómeno milagroso") es una fiesta religiosa cristiana en la que Jesús toma una presencia humana en la tierra, es decir Jesús se "da a conocer".

The Epiphany

Epiphany means manifestation. We celebrate Christ as light (the star being a symbol of this). The magi from afar symbolize ourselves, whom are called to be members of Christ's body and sharers of his promise.

"Lord, every nation of earth will adore you." is our response.

For centuries the feast of the Epiphany has been celebrated with great solemnity and joy. Even in our times, people in some countries exchange gifts as we do at Christmas. And in their charity they provide gifts of food to the needy, because, "one day men came from the East and offered the Infant gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh."

The Epiphany of our Lord
Jesus Christ
was a triple miraculous manifestation:
By the star that lead the
magi to Bethlehem;
by the heavenly Voice at
His Baptism in the Jordan;
by the change of water into wine
at Cana's wedding feast.
Thereby He showed Himself
as God and King to the
Nations of the World.

La Epifanía

Epifanía significa manifestación.

Celebramos a Cristo como la luz del mundo (reprsentada en la estrella). Los Magos u hombres sabios de tierras lejanas nos representan, quienes somos llamados a ser miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo y herederos de la promesa.

"Señor, cada nacion en la tierra te adorara"
es nuestra respuesta.

A través de los siglos la Fiesta de la Epifanía se ha celebrado con gran solemnidad y jubilo. Actualmente, en algunos paises se intercambian regalos en esta ocasión, como acostumbramos en Navidad. Y en su caridad, proveen regalos de comida a los necesitados, así como aquel día en que los hombres del Oriente ofrecieron al Niño Jesús, dones de oro, incienso y mirra.

La Epifanía de nuestro
Señor Jesucristo fue una manifestación triple:
A través de la estrella que los guió hacia Belén;
A través de la voz celestial en Su Bautismo en el Jordán;
A través de la conversión del agua en vino en las bodas de Cana.
Así Él se manifestó como Dios y Rey de todas las naciones del mundo.
