  ABaptism Guidelines

s you prepare to go on this important spiritual journey with your child, we want to make sure we are there to give you a hand in every step of the way.

The following gives you detailed information on the preparation for the Baptism of your child.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Parish Office.

Epiphany Priests & Staff

Baptism dates are scheduled as follows:in English: every 3rd Saturday of the month. In Spanish: every 1st, 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. (Please note: this schedule may change)

³ Baptismal ceremonies are held in the church at 10:00 AM.  Appropriate attire for all the baptism party must be worn for the ceremony.

To register child for Baptism

The child’s parents must either live in the Epiphany Parish area or be active, registered members of the parish. If they live outside the parish area or are registered in another parish, they need to present a permit from their parish to baptize at Epiphany.

³ Once the child is 5 years of age, he/she will need to attend Religious Education classes for at least a year in order to be baptized.

³ The child’s parents need to register at the Rectory Monday through Thursday ONLY.

To register the parents must bring the child’s County Birth Certificate. Certificate from hospital will only be accepted if the child is less than six months of age. There is a registration fee of $30.00 (cash only) due at the time of registration. (note: registration fee of $30.00 is non-refundable. The Registration Form will be held for a year from the registered date).

³ Parents and godparents  MUST attend a pre-baptismal class (a substitute or “representative” MAY NOT attend class in place of  any godparent or parent). Godparents may attend a class in their own parish if they prefer. A letter or certificate of attendance is required from the other parish, and should be brought in, faxed or emailed to our office.

³ Unfortunately, we are unable to provide childcare during the Pre-Baptism classes. Since the classes do require the parents and godparents full involvement, we kindly ask not to bring children to the class.

³ Once class has been completed, by both parents and godparents, parents must either contact or come into the Rectory Office to schedule a date for Baptism.  This cannot be set on the same day of the baptism!!!

Parents must select the godparents. Please remember that you are inviting this “special person” to walk with your child on his/her special journey. It should be a privilege for them to participate in such event.

³ One or more (no more than 4 people per child) sponsors/godparents may be chosen, but at least one MUST be a practicing Roman Catholic. The Roman Catholic sponsor must be:

1. At least 18 years of age, Baptized, and Confirmed (certificate of Confirmation is required)

2. If married must be married in the Roman Catholic Church (certificate of marriage is required)

³ Couples that are civilly married or living together do not qualify.

³ A sponsor who is not a Roman Catholic is considered a “Christian witness” or “Spiritual Witness”.

³ Parents cannot be the sponsors of their own child.
